Tree of Life
Sacred trees or ‘the tree of life,’ are present in nearly all religions or cultures. Trees symbolise the Axis Mundi or world-axis; the link between heaven and earth. The significance of special trees originates in our most primitive heritage. Trees are naturally symbols of growth – from the sapling to largest shade trees. Certain types of trees (as individuals, in groves or forests) are valued for magical properties or the bountiful harvest they produce. Humanity has depended on trees/wood for warmth, shelter, household items and the air we breathe. Tree circles have been planted from ancient to modern times to create sacred space. Wishing trees can also be found in countries throughout the world, often near wells or other sacred sites.
