Star of Venus

In the ancient near east the eight-pointed star was used to represent the star/planet Venus and dates to 2000 BCE. Stars represent wonder and luminosity and heavenly sources. Both ancient and modern people were/are in awe of the shining stars or planets that seem to move in the night sky, though mostly it is Earth’s orbit that predicts the position of regular arrivals. The eight pointed star represented the goddess Inanna, the Sumerian queen of heavens. The goddess Ishtar of Babylonia was the bringer of light, and was also represented by this star. The Babylonians were quite advanced in their astronomy and astrology (not separate units until the age of reasons in the 17th century). The Greek goddess Aphrodite and the Roman goddess Venus were equated with Ishtar and her star – these goddesses represent, love, beauty, lust, sex and fertility.
