Samhain Festival – Apple Earrings, Cherry Red

Samhain or Halloween, held in autumn is the last of the harvest festivals; mainly fruit and vegetables. Storage for winter is nearly done as the beautiful leaves of autumn fall. This festival is equally known for its remembrance of the ancestors and more recently departed. The veil between worlds is said to be thin on this night so it is easier to communicate with your ancestors.  Candles are lit across the world; festivals like Day of the Dead and Halloween have become very popular. Samhain reminds us of the cycle of life, death and renewal. Apples are very popular for this festival; pies and cakes are made and people play Halloween games with them. Bobbing for apples in a tub of water, with your hands behind your back is not that easy, but adds to the amusement. It is also thought that people put out apples, other fruits and nuts as offerings to Gods/Goddesses at the changing of seasons. Even special treats centuries ago at Samhain would have been apples and other sweet fruits. Decorate your home, dress up, light your candles, play games and have some lollies for Trick or Treat. Create your feast using roast pumpkin, make an apple pie and drink apple cider.
