Runes – Dagaz
The Runes are magical in nature, but also a practical written language. It is thought that the alphabetical order of these symbols derives from the Etruscans in Northern Italy – in the border region of Switzerland and Austria. The Germanic Tribes in the Alps merged their symbols with the Etruscan form of writing to create a working system for their people. The runes were used for good luck, love, blessings, a good harvest, victory in battle (engraved in sword blades), and divination.
Dagaz represents the dawn or new day, that everything starts again in a continuing cycle. This rune is the power of the sun and associated gods/goddesses that make things grow. The light brings spiritual wisdom after the learning experiences that life gives us. This extremely positive rune asks you to be open minded, so you do not miss important opportunities. Dagaz is a rune of balance between night and day; the light is important whether that be the hearth fire, ritual celebrations, shining stars at night or the dawn filling the land with light.
