Phoenicia – Ancient Sites, Teal/Gold

The fabled Phoenician trading ports and towns have a unique and enriching history. The city-states of Tyre, Sidon and Byblos were an import and export hub, with a thriving centre of art and culture. This coastal Eastern Mediterranean area (modern Lebanon) was famous for the imperial purple dye made from Murex shell, reserved only for royalty. Phoenician glass bead manufacturers and skilled artisan gold workers created stunning jewellery. The Phoenicians were influenced by the colours and designs of other significant empires in their lavish jewellery and beadwork creations. One can only imagine the busy streets with dyed fabrics, music and spices. The rich colours of life along the coast and sails in port added to the inspiration of these ancient world heritage sites.
