Is there anything more beautiful than the magic of the rainforest with its giant tree ferns? The Great Otway National Park is something to be admired in its glorious shades of green. Large eucalyptus trees more than 500 years old line the canopy creating the needed shade below. Waterfalls, gullies and creeks, moisten the air enabling growth for ferns, bushes, fungi, birds and marsupials. You might even spot and frog or fish in the stream. This ancient place in Gadubanud country spans the rain forest, wetlands, grasslands and coast. With a history that spans 100,000 years the indigenous people have been the custodians of the land. The region takes its name from Cape Otway, after Captain William Otway. The rain forest can be quite a spiritual experience, so sit for a few minutes with your eyes closed and listen to the sounds of life. Then look at the varied plant life around you. Re-wild yourself in this rich green wonderland.
