Narberth castle in Wales is the place of legends. The 12th century ruin is famous for an important collection of Welsh medieval folk tales called the Mabinogion. This book says that in past times the palace Castell Arberth stood on his same historical site. This old kingdom of Dyfed is the sacred home of Rhiannon/Epona, the goddess protector of horses. In the Mabinogion, Rhiannon makes her appearance on a mysterious white horse and meets Price Pwyll who she later marries. Rhiannon is falsely accused of infanticide (her son Pryderi was abducted) and is forced to act like a horse and constantly humiliated at court. In Celtic towns and Roman regions, Epona was the protector of horses, ponies, donkeys, mules and the fertility of the land. Horses were the main mode of transport in ancient and historic eras and special bonds were formed. Many statues of the beautiful Epona/Rhiannon with her horses have been found in Europe.
