Litha Festival – Oak Earrings, Green
Litha or Summer Solstice celebrates the beginning of summer. This solstice has a focus on bonfires, rolling cartwheels of fire, dancing, early vegetable harvest, handfasting, spiritual contemplation about the balance between light and darkness. The Oak King is at full power until the Holly king regains his rule at the Autumn Equinox. This is a popular time to visit stone circles with their alignments to the sun during the summer solstice. The oak tree is sacred to the Celtic people. The oak tree represents truth, strength, endurance, inspiration, wisdom and otherworldly connections. The oak is at its peak in summer and since oak trees can live for 500 years; the wisdom label is easy to comprehend. The Druids believed acorns had magical properties, oak trees were doorways to spiritual realms and any mistletoe that grew on the branches was to be revered. Celebrate outdoors with a fire, green vegetable feast or picnic and celebrate the blessings of growth and warmer weather.
