The Great Barrier Reef is a world heritage natural wonder. The Reef stretches 2,300 km, from Bundaberg to the tip of Cape Your Peninsula. This coral reef system along the Queensland coast is a marvel and home to millions of fish, crustacean and marine animals and birds. The Australian reef is so large it can be seen from outer space. The annual coral spawning events are spectacular as new life begins. There are 600 types of coral found in the marine park, though climate change is threatening the reef with bleaching events due to temperature rise. Snorkelling or diving the reef is like entering another world; the vivid colours of the living coral are electric, even unearthly. There are seventy Indigenous clans whose sea country includes the Great Barrier Reef. This stunning eco-tourism destination is magnificent and will continue to be protected for future generations.
