Freycinet Inspirations, Earrings
Freycinet National Park is a breezy coastal area famous for its stunning turquois bays and white sands. The deeper water is home to flowing kelp beds moving gently in the contrasting colours of this aquatic paradise. The kelp is a safe haven for fish and other marine life that thrive there. Sponge gardens, black coral and Butterfly Perch are well known in the area. The pristine waters are home to, sea birds, sea eagles, dolphins, seals and whales as they migrate. The land is a bush walker’s haven with mountains, birds, animals, and magnificent beaches. Though you could just sit on the beach with a book or take a bay cruise. The traditional owners of the Freycinet Peninsula were from the Toorerno-marie-mener clan and part of The Oyster Bay Nation. The area has shell middens, rock shelters and stone artefacts. During the last Ice Age, sea levels fell and Aboriginal people were able to move from mainland Australia to Tasmania via a land bridge 15,000 years ago. There were many conflicts as European settlement continued to expand and Aboriginal people died of western diseases. The remaining indigenous people were sent to Flinders Island in the 1830s, away from their places of birth. The government thought it might ensure their survival, it had minimal success and the remaining population were transported back to Oyster Cove. Today the history, healing and growth continue towards a non-discriminatory future. It’s the colours of Freycinet that sink deep into the soul an uplifting experience of nature at its peak.
