Celtic Knot Work or Weaving
The knots, plait-work or weaving are a stunning feature of Celtic spiritual artwork. The weaving patterns represent the tribal migrations and travels through life which began in northern Italy and southern Gaul (a part of modern France) and spread to Ireland in the 7th century. The never-ending knot work shows the past, present and unknown future from birth to the migration of the soul. These beautiful designs have a heritage in Celtic pagan culture (German, Swiss, Italian, French, English, Welsh, Scottish, and Irish) and Christianity. The Christian Celts created illuminated sacred manuscripts of which the famous Irish Book of Kells and the Lindisfarne Gospels are great examples. The symbolism of the weaving knot work is to bind the soul to the earthly life and meditate on the journey so far. Appreciate your life, be part of your community and be creative.
